Police arrested a second man Saturday
in connection with the killing of 17-year-old Dusty Bambarger.
Terry Dewayne Montgomery, 20, 9262 Scenic Highway, faces a count
of first-degree murder, accused of killing Bambarger for his sport
utility vehicle.
Bambarger disappeared from his Woodlawn Estates subdivision home
Nov. 9, leaving in his parents' Suburban and saying he was going to
a friend's house to watch a movie.
The Suburban later turned up at Nottingham Apartments, 12020
Florida Blvd., covered in motor oil in what was described in an
arrest warrant as "an obvious attempt to destroy evidence."
Fingerprints found on the Suburban matched those of Leonard
Moses, 24, who was arrested on a count of illegal possession of
stolen things for driving the Suburban. No additional counts have
been added against Moses.
After sheriff's officials initially insisted there was no sign of
foul play in the case, Bambarger's body was found Dec. 8 in a vacant
lot on Ford Street in north Baton Rouge.
Due to decomposition, Bambarger's body had to be identified by
dental records. Sheriff's officials have still not released a cause
of death.
According to an arrest warrant, however, Montgomery and Derrick
Lamont Gaines, 26, were riding in Bambarger's Suburban with the teen
Nov. 14. Gaines is suspected of hitting Bambarger on the head with a
gun before Montgomery helped him kill Bambarger.
Montgomery is accused of then renting the Suburban out for eight
rocks of crack cocaine, the warrant said.
Gaines, whose last known address is 2835 Gore Road, was arrested
Dec. 18 on a count of first-degree murder.
Bambarger's father has described his son as talented and
respectful, but said the boy had developed a cocaine habit.
Bambarger's friends have said he had started hanging out with a
rough crowd before his death.
Sheriff's Office spokesman Fred Raiford could not be reached for
comment Saturday afternoon.
